IT Service

IT provides services for 20 Divisions across 5 Council Directorates. We also support Tower Hamlets Homes and provide access and digital collaboration for several key partners, including the NHS and care teams.

We support over 100 applications, manage 150 supplier contracts, and deliver approximately 25 digital projects per year.

We are a strategic enabler for the Council. Quite simply, the Council could not deliver our services or support our most vulnerable citizens without IT. We must ensure our technology, assets and architecture keeps pace with the developing needs of the rich and diverse community we serve, and the changing ways of working for our colleagues across the Council. The Covid-19 pandemic provides the best example of this. Our work enabled over 4000 employees to work remotely, providing digital-first, inclusive services that ensured our residents were connected and supported.

Over the past year we have:

  • Separated from our IT outsourcing arrangement, brought core IT services back in-house and started strategic vendor relationships with new partners covering Cloud Hosting, Service Desk and Network
  • Implemented our Smarter Working IT programme, enabling flexible, resilient (remote) working via the use of Windows 10 and Azure Cloud capabilities
  • Migrated all of our on premise applications to the Cloud
  • Enabled a resilient remote working solution empowering our colleagues to ‘seamlessly’ work from home or other locations
  • Replaced legacy and outdated infrastructure

This year we plan to:

  • Remove our legacy network and complete our VPN and SD WAN roll out
  • Introduce Robotic Process Automation
  • Roll out additional M365 functionality and capabilities
  • Implement business intelligence and analytics technology
  • Continue to enhance & improve our cyber security posture
  • Consolidate core systems
  • Enhance our Mosaic social care system
  • Upgrade our Telecare equipment for service users
  • Design our IT requirements for the new Town Hall
  • Improve and build our new IT Service
