How we structure our team

The Public Health team is structured into three teams, each responsible for two programme areas.

Healthy Environments and Communities team

  • Healthy Environments programme
  • Healthy Communities programme

Healthy Adults team

  • Healthy Young Adults programme
  • Healthy Middle Age and Older People programme

Healthy Children and Families team

  • Healthy Maternity and Early Years programme
  • Healthy Children and Adolescents programme

Each team is led by an Associate Director of Public Health, who reports to the Director of Public Health. Within each programme are:

  • Public Health Programme Leads
  • Public Health Programme Managers
  • Public Health Programme Officers
  • Public Health Community Navigators (Healthy Communities team only)
  • Public Health Apprentices

Selection process stages

Our selection process is in two stages:

  1. Shortlisting of applications
  2. Interview shortlisted applicants

All interviews for the roles in the Healthy Children and Families team will include a written test, a presentation and a panel interview. The presentation will be provided in advance of the interview to allow sufficient time to prepare. Full instructions will be provided to shortlisted candidates.

Your application

To apply please follow the application link on each individual role advert. You will be asked to fill in an online job application, including a supporting statement section.

Each role has a detailed job description and person specification, which are published on the advert for the relevant role. The person specification sets out the criteria we use to assess applicants.

It is important that in your application you address all criteria that are marked with the letter A in the person specification.

We shortlist candidates against criteria marked with an asterix (*), which may also be highlighted in yellow. Please provide examples to demonstrate you meet these criteria.

Top tips for completing your application

You may wish to write your application in separate programme (e.g. MS Word) and then copy this into Alvius when finalised. Please note that formatting may be lost when you copy this across.

In the 'Knowledge' section, please explain how you have acquired the knowledge specified for the role. You do not need to demonstrate your understanding in the application, for example, you should not use the limited word count to define what epidemiology is.

If a particular example of work demonstrates a number of criteria, you may wish to use a simple numbering system to make reference to these criteria. For example, "I led a JSNA into mental health of prisoners (Criteria 1, 4, 10)". This is optional and is only offered as one way to make better use of the word count.

You will be asked to complete some diversity monitoring information and certify your right to work in the UK. You will need to provide details of two references. Referees will only be contacted for successful applicants.

For business reasons, we may withdraw vacancies. If we do so, we will let applicants know as soon as possible and we would remove them from our portal.

The deadlines vary between different roles so please check the individual roles for closing dates.

Informal discussions

If you are interested in a particular role and would like to discuss it further, please contact the person listed on the specific job advert.
