Public Health

The council offers a wide range of staff benefits, including a generous annual leave allowance, membership of the local government pension scheme, season ticket loans, and an employee assistance programme to support employee wellbeing. Our full staff benefits can be found on our website

Flexible working

Through its range of flexible working policies, the council seeks to ensure that employees achieve improved work life balance. these include:

  • reduced hours
  • term time working
  • home working
  • job sharing
  • part-time working
  • career break scheme
  • extended leave scheme.

The policies apply to all posts unless an assessment shows that there would be implications for service delivery.

We are moving into our new town hall in Whitechapel in 2022. As part of the move, we are adopting new hybrid working arrangements. All roles would be office-based on average two days per week with the remaining days remotely. We are open to exploring other working patterns subject to business need.

Our TOWER values and behaviours

Our TOWER values and TOWER behaviours (how we live our values) are built into how we recruit for all jobs. They will help ensure that at Tower Hamlets we attract the right people, so the council is a great place to work and delivers excellent outcomes for our residents.

The TOWER values and TOWER behaviours provide a structured way for highlighting the behaviours that people applying for jobs will need to demonstrate on the personal statement section of the application form, at the interview and at any other assessment stage of recruitment process.

Further information on the key behaviours that you will need to demonstrate will be included in the person specification in the job pack for each role.
