About Us
We are a small but dedicated team of advisory teachers committed to enabling the inclusion of young people with language and literacy difficulties in mainstream schools. Our team was formed following a restructure of the Language and Communication Team and the Specific Literacy Difficulties Team four years ago. We provide high-quality advice and support to school staff, equipping them with the confidence and skills to support pupils with language and/or literacy challenges.
The Role
We have an upcoming vacancy from September 2025 due to the retirement of the current post holder. We are seeking a skilled and experienced teacher who can work in an advisory capacity within a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
As an Advisory Teacher, you will:
- Support mainstream schools to develop inclusive practices for pupils with language and literacy difficulties.
- Deliver training on a range of interventions, including whole-school INSET.
- Contribute to our established dyslexia pathway, offering training and ongoing support.
- Collaborate closely with other specialist teams in the borough and health service partners.
- Work across the age range, demonstrating expertise in special educational needs and a commitment to successful inclusion.
- Support and mentor colleagues in their professional development.
- Work in various locations across the borough, with a travel allowance or essential car user allowance provided.
What We Offer
For candidates with the right qualifications, skills, and experience, we offer:
- Salary: Main Scale / UPS (basic) + TLR 2B(max) + SEN (min) at Inner London rates.
- Potential Earnings: For a UPS 3 teacher working full-time, the equivalent salary could be up to £63,378 per annum.
- Flexible Working Options: Initially, the role can be offered at four days per week (26 hours), with the possibility of increasing to full-time (32.5 hours).
Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Be an exceptional communicator and an experienced practitioner.
- Have experience working across different age groups.
- Have a wider knowledge of special educational needs (SEN) and a strong commitment to inclusive education.
- Be well-organised, proactive, and able to work effectively within a team.
If you believe you have the skills and experience required for this role and are excited about working in a dynamic borough like Tower Hamlets, we would love to hear from you!
