Sessional Language Tutor

Young Community Languages – Tutor

Number of vacancies required for the following languages:

Bangla x 23

Arabic x 5

Mandarin/Cantonese x 4

Somali x 3

This is an indefinite sessional teaching position. The role is term-time only (up to 36 weeks per year), with a working pattern dependent on demand, possibly 4 x 1-hour sessions Monday to Friday afternoon/evenings, and/or Saturday/Sunday mornings/afternoons.

Salary: £30.41 - £36.78 per hour, depending on your qualifications and experience.

The Role

We are looking for tutors to provide high quality teaching, learning, assessment and support for learners in the Young Community Languages service for Tower Hamlets Council.

To work effectively as a team with management and tutors. You will work closely with the Service Managers to design and teach high-quality language courses that ensure our learners experience engaging, enjoyable and purposeful classes that enable them to be competent language communicators in their chosen language.

To ensure the curriculum is responsive to external drivers such as OFSTED and fit for purpose for the residents of the Borough.

To take part in curriculum development to widen the scope for Young Community Languages service

To contribute to the promotion and development of a culture of children and young people community languages learning in Tower Hamlets.

About You

• Detailed knowledge of your chosen language as a native speaker and the ability to teach from beginners to advanced learners.

• A recognised teaching qualification.

• Proven experience in teaching your chosen language courses to children and young people.

• Strong administrative and IT skills and familiarity with course delivery documentation.

• Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement.

• Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate simply, clearly and with empathy with speakers of other languages.

• This post requires an enhanced DBS and the ability to work flexibly and across learning sites and community venues as required.
