Out of Hours AMHP/Senior Practitioner (sessional role)

About Tower Hamlets – The Best of London in one borough!

Tower Hamlets is one of the UK's most culturally vibrant and diverse areas, at the heart of London's East End. Our vision is that local communities will be independent, strong and vibrant.

We want you to be part of the future that we are creating, and to help us make a difference. We are looking for Sessional AMHPs to join the Emergency Duty Team. We are proud of our values because they demonstrate how we work and interact with customers, partners and colleagues on a day-to-day basis.

We have five core values:

  • Together - We work TOGETHER across boundaries and with partners to achieve the best outcomes for Tower Hamlets
  • Open and honest - We are OPEN and transparent
  • Willing - We are WILLING to challenge, innovate and be accountable
  • Excellence - We empower each other to be EXCELLENT and go the extra mile
  • Respect - We RESPECT all communities; they are the heart of everything we do

About you

As an Out of Hours AMHP you will part of a small, supportive, and experienced team. Working nights, weekends, and bank holidays, you will respond to calls from the public, stake holders and service providers about urgent adult social care issues, including safeguarding, Mental Health Act assessments and homelessness applications that arise out of hours.

You will be able to:

  • Provide an appropriate response to all emergency referrals to the adult social care department outside normal working hours, including urgent safeguarding referrals.
  • Provide an appropriate response to referrals of homelessness out of normal working hours providing emergency accommodation where appropriate.
  • Undertake assessments under the mental health act as an AMHP.
  • Be able to work on their own initiative and be able to make independent decisions as they will be working alone

The hourly rate for being a sessional AMHP is £36.36 normal hours and £54.54 for unsocial hours (evenings, weekends and Bank holidays). The hourly rate includes an additional payment to cover any annual leave that you accrue.

Tower Hamlets vision for our borough is that: people are aspirational, independent and have equal access to opportunities; we are a borough that our residents are proud of and love to live in; and we are a dynamic, outcomes-based council using digital innovation and partnership working to respond to the changing needs of our borough. We want people who aspire to our TOWER values: Together; Open; Willing; Excellent; Respect.

Tower Hamlets has a zero-tolerance approach to, and works to eradicate, all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status, status as a civil partner, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and maternity and looks to employ a diverse workforce representative of those groups. We recognise that people can also be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.

We are a Disability Confident Employer, which means applicants who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the post are guaranteed an interview. Care experience has also been adopted by the Council as an additional protected characteristic.

We welcome applicants interested in flexible working arrangements and also applicants who live in the borough.
